Farm Days at NC State's Beef Educational Unit

This was a wonderful field trip that we took in mid-April! NC State's Agriculture and Life Science dept. sets up "farm days" in the spring. All schools are welcome to sign up and come for free including homeschools. The girls absolutely loved this trip. Ella had been asking to see chicks for a few months and Emy really wanted to pet a sheep, so this was the perfect opportunity.

Examining the chicken feed

The highlight of the day, chicks! They had both turkey and chicken chicks. This one is a turkey chick. You can tell by the little bump above his beak.

Ella and the chicks were enthralled with each other.

This baby horse was just hanging out laying near his mom. :-)

This poor cow! He was labeled with the different cuts of meat. He let out a couple of insulted "moos" while the students explained the different qualities of the meat. LOL!

 Milking!

 Baby cow!

 Free ice cream!

,
Emy's request... check!

 And back to the chicks!

Ella really does have a special touch with animals! She loves them and they love her!

Emy's learning from her big sister! :-)

One happy girl, actually, I had two very happy girls!

Strawberry Picking at Porter Farms in Willow Springs

We went strawberry picking in April at Porter Farms with our homeschool group. Every single strawberry there is sweet and delicious!

Emy found one with three segments.

 Bees were hard at work!

We're growing Emy's bangs out and she doesn't like barrettes or headbands, so sometimes she's a little shaggy. :-)

 Homemade Ice Cream!

Great Harvest Bread Company Tour

We got to participate in a free tour of the Great Harvest Bread Company in Cary today with some of our fellow homeschoolers. The girls had a great time, got to sample the bread and cookies, and learned lots about bread!

 The grain mill

Ground wheat

 Huge mixer!

5 ingredients... wheat flour, yeast, honey, salt, and water.

 Examining the dough

 Rolling dough snakes!

Throwing the balled up dough back into the bowl.

Cookies the size of your face!

Spring Dance Recital Rehearsal

This is from the girls' rehearsal for their Saturday recital. Ella had three dances (Tap, Ballet, & Jazz) and Emy had two (Tap & Ballet). My camera had a lot of trouble with the stage lighting, but I tried to pick out the best. The videos lost even more quality when uploaded, but hopefully they'll give you an idea of the dances.

Ella's tap dance - Rockin' Robin (Ella's the furthest to the right)

Emy's tap dance - Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun - super cute!

Emy's to the far left in the back row (third form the left)

Ella's ballet dance - The Glow

Ella is third from the left.

Ella's on the far left on the back row, then moves up to second from the left.

Ella's third from the left.

Emma's ballet dance - The Magic Song - The lighting is terrible on this, but it's the best video I could get of Emy's ballet dance.

Ella's jazz dance - Shake

Ella's almost center front on this video (she's actually second from the right in the first row).
